Fig Diary

Two surprise figs sent by Direct Plants to replace pistachios that had arrived with one of the twin male/female planting not alive. I had said just to send something that they had an overstock of, and to surprise me, and two healthy fig varieties arrived.

Towards the end of Autumn, they had produced a few pea-sized figs in bud, but they were not strong enough to go over winter.

Plants were left outside over the mild winter, but I’ll move them into the floppy greenhouse in future years.

April, Week 3

First small fig spotted on the Brown Turkey plant. Leaves are starting to appear on both plants. Will have to protect from late frosts as the weather predicts a number of sub-zero nights still lay ahead, despite the last predicted frost being around next week.
