Sesame-Free Houmous

Sesame-Free Houmous

I made this houmous recipe as an alternative to my favourite houmous recipe. By bypassing the use of tahini, made from ground sesame, it keeps costs low and avoids a major allergen, making it perfect for use in toddler recipes.

Ingredients

  • 2 tins Chickpeas in water drained and rinsed
  • 4 cloves Garlic
  • 2 tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 3 tbsp Butter
  • 2 tsp Ground turmeric
  • ½ tsp Ground cumin

Instructions

  1. Squeeze each chickpea gently until they pop out of their skins. Discard skins.

  2. Place chickpeas into a pan and cover with three times their depth in water. Boil gently for 15 minutes, topping up water if needed.

  3. Reserve some of the boiling water, and drain.

  4. Add all ingredients plus a little of the reserved water to a food processor, and blitz on high speed for five minutes, checking every minute or so for texture and taste. Add more reserved water if needed.

  5. Season to taste.

  6. Cool quickly, then refrigerate.
