My fiancé and I have treated ourselves to a few days off work to just enjoy doing a few of the things that we love. As I write this Russell is sitting by my feet playing Arkham City on the XBox whilst I sort through pictures of knitted items and projects in progress that I have been working on recently.
I have put a few more rows into the jumper that I am knitting as well as editing and submitting my latest magazine commission sock pattern, a few of which I have coming up soon. It’s a time for indulging hobbies as well as catching up and looking back – things that a full time job can sometimes get in the way of. One of the things that I have also been doing whilst I have this time to enjoy it is adding some of my old archived posts from Eskimimi Knits back on to this blog.
This is something that I have been doing incrementally over the past year or so, often when I get a bit of free time. It is not that easy a task, simply because of the amount of content that needs copying over and reformatting, pictures found and replacing, and posts linking and navigating. Every now and again I also come across a post that I find quite sad or touching as I can now read in my own words how lonely that I used to feel. Thank you to all those that used to read, comment and show me love and kindness from across the miles. I know that this blog is nowhere near as big in readership as my old one used to be, but those of you that have taken the time to reach out and say hi, thank you. You probably don’t know how much that meant to me when I was struggling a couple of years ago.
The archive of old content is not complete, some of the content having been missed by Internet archiving services, but I think I must be getting about 70-75% of my old content back, albeit slowly. I am under no illusions that this act is for anyone but myself, but I think I lost my old blog and all of the love and care that I put into it because of such bad circumstances that I find it quite empowering to hopefully regain some of that part of me that universe seemed to take from me. I’m now up until August 2010, with something like 120 posts re-published, so if you fancy seeing what Retro-Mimi was up to three years ago, click that link and the new fangled infinite scrolling will take you on a whirlwind adventure of hooks and needles.
As well as finding a few days to indulge my hobbies and interests, Mr Awesome and I also took a little shopping trip today. We didn’t pass anywhere that sells yarn, but I wanted an excuse to show you my amazing new teapot, so I put it on top of the jumper that I am knitting to try and fool you into thinking that it has something to do with yarn. But it doesn’t. It’s just amazing.
